Glendale Glitters 2009

Last night was wonderful at Glendale Glitters. Ran into some great people... and some less than great people, but I didn't let the chilliness in their airs effect my night and still socialized with the better company around.

Before the night ended we stopped into an antique store where I picked up 9 thin paper volumes on sewing. It includes alterations, trims, cutting... general knowledge sewing teachings. Now that I actually grabbed them from the table I see that they are called; SIMPLIFIED SYSTEMS OF Sewing AND Styling by DORIS ANDERSON. They are from 1948 and I hope they help teach me so I can improve my sewing. Lesson 1 be patient. LOL Lesson 2 Don't be Lazy! Hah!

So it was a nice night with friends and a man I adore...

Unfortunately I showered and washed my hair earlier and didn't let it set long enough to thuroughly dry and it was a big fluff of a mess. Yay!

Date Night at the Orpheum

Due to some changes that will be happening soon here at Vintage Starlet, this blog entry will be short and include only 1 photo.

Last Saturday Perry, myself, Maria, Chip, Doc, Jodey, and for a short time, Dori met up at the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix to watch Blood and Sand, a 1922 Rudolph Valentino flick. I enjoyed the movie more than I expected and we all had a great time!

Hi, My name is Lolita and I am a LUSHIE!

I think this blog is turning into a LUSH blog more than a vintage one! Hah!

My friend took me out to LUSH today for a bit of a shopping spree. I made out like a bandit, ya'll! Yeehaw. I am sitting here with BB Seaweed on my face as I type this. I haven't tried BB Seaweed before, so unfortunately I won't be able to post my thoughts on it just yet. Perhaps another time. In fact, I don't really have time for any reviews at the moment. :(

So I will just mark the goodies I got...
BB Seaweed Fesh Face Mask
Seanick solid shampoo
Marilyn Hair treatment
Enchanted Eye Cream
Dark Angels face cleanser
Bohemian soap
Sultana of Soap
Godmother soap
Star melt
Satsumo Santa bath bomb
Christmas Party bath bomb
Strawberry Feels Forever Massage Bar
Snow Fairy free gift
Sample of Retread
Sample of American Cream

Squee! Its all in the kitchen right now, making the kitchen smell ridiculously good!!

I love you LUSH!

Vintage Starlet is right!

Oh how I wish I had photos of the dress I put on layaway! I just bought a dress from Hollywood Regency Vintage and it is gorgeous! It is still on layaway so it will be a bit before I show photos, but wow. It is made of brown rayon crepe and has silver star shaped studs all over it. It firs PERFECTLY and has the original belt!

No I just need to find a pair of shoes to go with this gem! The brown isn't a normal brown that I could find matching shoes for, so I am going to have to figure out what color shoes go with it best. Plus a hat... I will need a hat too.

I like this dress because it can be worn as evening cocktail or fancy afternoon luncheon. Yay! I can't wait until it is paid off. Whoo hoo!!! Once it is mine mine... I will be taking photos! XOXOXO

New Shoes

I have to thank my sweetie for these. He got them for me off eBay. The auction said 40's 50's, but I think they are definitely 50's. If anyone knows better please correct me. I am so excited to go swinging in these. While I can lindy pretty well in my Cole Haan's (as Jenny can atest to), I wouldn't mind a smaller heel. My Cole Haan's sport a 5 inch heel. Yes, I dance in that. So going down to a 3 1/2 heel will be a blessing for my doggies. I can't wait to wear them out. Possibly on the 25th, when I wear my new black dress!! Yay!

Dear Vintage Purists

The life style that was lived yester year was not an Amish or Menonite lifestyle. Had energy savers, computers, cell phones, and other marvels of the modern world exsisted, they would have used them and enjoyed them then as people do today. So get off the computer you purists and quit your whining!

Thank you.

LUSH of the Evening

As reported earlier in this post, I wrote about what LUSH products I used in the morning. Well, it seemed only fair to talk about what I used at night also.

I hopped in the shower and washed my hair with normal shampoo, I then did a whole body wash, hair too, in Snow Fairy. I met Snow Fairy for the first time my last trip in and I was INSTANTLY HOOKED!! Sadly, being a seasonal scent, I will have to either stock up as soon as I can or take my chances and hope it goes on sale and hope there are Snow Fairies left to grab. Snow fairy is a strawberry candy smelling delight! As a shower gel it can be used on the face, body, and hair... and that is exactly what I did! I followed up with conditioner.

For a better clean on my face, I used Coalface,
one of my staples from LUSH. Having oily skin, the coal based soap helps attack the oilies. Some people find it too drying because of this. I think it is perfect so long as I have a good moisturizer as well. The grits of coal in coalface work as a soft exfoliator for me. I love it. How is it different than Dark Angels which I talked about in my previous LUSH post? The texture isn't as gritty and is a soap, where Dark Angels is more of a paste forming scrub. I think I would like to keep both of these on hand in my staple, using Coalface for mornings and every day use, and Dark Angels for night time and heavy duty cleansing. Yes, I know I did it backwards this time, but this is how I normally do it.

I patted my face dry and applied Brazened Honey
all over my face and neck. With the help of Tayva, BH was the first Fresh Face Mask I purchased and the one I always go back to. I try to pick one up when ever I am in the store and buy a second FFM to try out. Fresh Face Masks can only be purchased in store and not online. Because of this I can't link. Other than Aqua Marina I mentioned in the earlier post, BH has been the most healing to my skin. I see a magical difference overnight with this gooey goodness. Some people find it to harsh of a scrub when rinsing off. I think it is just right. I left it on for about an hour (5-20min usually is enough time) before I rinsed it off. It had hardened so when I rewet my face I took the opprotunity to use it as a scrub and exfoliated my face while I was "rinsing" it off. What a glow!

I finished up with a spritzing of Breath of Fresh Air and slathered on Celestial.

Now dear readers, I call it a night.

To sum it up:
Snow Fairy - body and hair wash
Coalface - facial soap
Brazened Honey - fresh face mask/scrub
Breath of Fresh Air - toner
Celestial - moisturizer

Happy Birthday Bonzai!

I know this isn't vintage, but this boy means more to me than any 1940's hat or 1930's heels...

My baby boy is 11 today! Happy Birthday Bonzai!

LUSH of the Day

I started out by washing my face with Dark Angels. I took advantage of the little coal bits and scrubbed my face gently. I avoided my eyes and let it sit on my skin while I continued with the rest of my shower, hoping that it would work extra hard and suck the ickies out of my pores. Some people don't care for the black licorice smell it has. It smells very similar if not exactly like Coalface

I then used Chox Away to lather up my legs and used it to shave with. Chox Away is probably LUSH's creamiest soap and makes a wonderful shaving agent. The only thing that makes me have a closer shave is a new razor with Chox Away. Now when it comes to the smell of CA, I am not sure if I like it or not. It isn't bad, but something about it isn't great either. It reminds me a bit of how each of us have that certain food we just love even though we know it is the grossest thing ever. For me that food is Slim Jims*. There should be nothing good about those greasy tubes of mushy meatlike product, but it is and I love them. Thank goodness the scent of CA isn't like that of a Slim Jim! I'd take it's orange chocolate tangy scent anyday!

After I was done shaving, I lathered up with my favourite, Honey I Washed the Kids. I took my time making sure I didn't miss a spot!! What I like about this soap is that for the most part, it leaves a nice hint on your skin that it was once there. So Yummy!! I can't believe there are people out there who don't like this soap! I could go on and on about HIWtK, but I will move on.

Before I hoped out of the shower I washed the Dark Angels from my face. Towel dried myself then rewet my face and applied a paste of Aqua Marina and let it sit there for about 10 mins. AM was my first purchase at LUSH. It has been a staple ever since and probably my favourite of their skin care line. CoalFace, Brazened Honey, and now Dark Angels are also on my top list. Back to AM. I love the smell of it. Seaweed shouldn't smell so good but it does. This is another one of those products that when I see it I have to smell it -- whether or not I am using it. It has been really kind to my skin making blemishes disappear almost over night! I find it moisturizing without being heavy and it doesn't dry out my skin. Definately a keeper!

After I let Aqua Marina sit and dry I washed it off with a warm wash cloth and spritzed my face with Breath of Fresh Air. I have never really used a toner, ever, let a lone a LUSH toner, so I am not sure how well or not it is working. I don't think it is doing too bad and may even be helping reduce redness. This doesn't seem to be a miracle product that clears up skin and shrink pores the moment it is applied, but I have a feeling with constant use, I could really benefit from it's potion. So I think I will stick with this one and maybe pick up some other toners to try as well.

To finish up I used a bit of the sample of Celestial I recieved to moisturize my face. I am on the fence about this one. It isn't harming my skin in any way, like Gorgeous did, but it really doesn't seem to be helping. It is thicker than I care for in richness, but isn't greasy. It is hard to explain. It's almost as though it only soaks half way into my skin and then creating a new base layer with they rest. A bit like how primer works with makeup. I'll just keep sampling moisturizers until I find the right one for me. Sadly, LUSH may not be were I find the perfect moisturizer. Doobley sad is I haven't found it anywhere else I have tried either.

So know I am just sitting at the computer sniffing away at any little hint of my LUSH goodies I happen to catch!

To sum it up:

Dark Angels - facial cleanser
Chox Away - soap (I use specifically for shaving)
Honey I Washed the Kids - soap
Aqua Marina - facial cleanser used as a mask
Breath of Fresh Air - toner
Celestial - moisturizer

*I have replaced Slim Jims with the far superior Jack Links Madators... They are even yummier and don't give me the problems that Slim Jims do!

Lolita Haze Photography

Yes... I am what one claims to be a photographer. I have been out of it for sometime due to the move and lack of space. Since Perry and I have turned his carport into a temporary studio, I have been excited to shoot again, but unsure as I have been out for a while. I have owed my gal pal Dixie Martin a handful of shoots for a long time and got started on them today. It was fun and a fairly quick ordeal. I thought I would share the first photo from the shoot. This is probably my fav from the shoot and the reason why it was the first one I worked on. Here it is.

Oh LUSH how I love thee!

I was treated with a gift certificate for one of my favourite stores -- LUSH!! Oh how I missed the delightfulness that is LUSH. Being that I have been all out of my LUSH stash for some time now, I had to stock up on my staples and unfortunately had to pass on the extras, like bath bombs and bubble bars. Next time I will stock up on pampering goodies!

I did get a small bar of my favourite soap Honey I Washed the Kids. I wasn't going to leave the store without that one for sure!

I also grabbed a bit of 2 of my favourite facial cleansers, Coalface and Aqua Marina. I should really hate AM, but I am in love with it's seaweed smell! So clean smelling.

I needed to get a fresh face mask (only availible in stores) and was hoping they hadn't run out of my favourite, Brazened Honey. Luckily for me, they had plenty in stock so I picked one up.

One more "for sure" thing on my list to get was a massage bar. I wanted to get one so I could give Perry a full body massage. He has been working so hard lately and I know he would enjoy it, since he enjoyed the last one I gave him. What he didn't like, however, was the massage bar I used. Glitter Glitter. The smell is nice, but he could have done without the ever lasting glitter on him. I however, will be using this massage bar to pre-glitter myself before a show from now on. I wanted to choose one that was the least offensive to him, so I settled on Each Peach. There were about 3 other massage bar smells that I enjoyed as much (if not more), but I think Each Peach would be the one most pleasing to his nostrils.

The last thing on my list was to get a small bit of Chox Away. I found it to be a great shaving soap, so it is nice to have it on hand.

I still had some credit left on the GC so I looked around for new things to try out. The SA Melissa (or is it Michelle - I always forget her name) gave me a hand scrub using Snow Fairy and Fairytail Sugar Scrub. I fell instantly in love with both so I added those to my basket.

Even if I am not interested in a certain product, I still like to smell them! Take the shower jellies for example. They don't seem like something I would like. I have never bought a jelly before and had no real interest in trying them. Well, I am smelling each one when I came across Sweetie Pie. It smells EXACTLY like You Snap the Whip a body butter buffer that I had tried in the past and LOVED the smell of. What I didn't like was how quickly it melted and vanished in the shower. For $13.00 I expected a little more longevity in it. So when I smelled Sweetie Pie I had to get it!! I am hoping the jelly lasts longer than the body butter.

I wanted to get another butter cream so I decided on trying Heavenly Bodies a chocolatey delight! I tried Lemslip and liked it a lot. Not so much for myself, but thought it made a wonderful guest soap for the bathroom and a nice quick cleansing hand soap for the kitchen sink.

My skin has been freaking out lately since I ran out of my beloved face cleanser from Cosmedicine. Being that the GC was for LUSH and not Ulta, I looked a bit into the skin care that LUSH carries. I really couldn't decide what to get. I knew I NEEDED a moisturizer, but being super sensative to their heavy oils, I decided to pass on buying a full tub of moisturizer and try a spray toner instead. I decided on Breath of Fresh Air. Hopfully it won't make my skin flare up.

Last but not least, I picked up another fresh face mask. Oatifix is a new(er) ffm and it sounded soothing from the description so I picked one up. I am actually looking forward to trying this one out tonight.

Being that skin care was my first concern, I picked up samples of Dark Angels face cleanser and Celestial mositurizer.

So tonight I think I will be trying out a bunch new products. Tonights menu includes Sweetie Pie to cleanse, Dark Angels to cleanse and decoxify my face, Oatifix to soothe and nurish, Breath of Fresh Air to tone, and Celestial to moisturize. Of course I will write reports on each product after I use them. I know they aren't vintage, but I love LUSH so much I have to rave!!

Halloween 2009

This past Friday Jenny and her hubby Louis had a Halloween party and boy was it swell! How funny when I walked in to find that Jenny dressed as ME for Halloween! Hahaha She even got the jelly shoes down! It was a fun night full of friends new and old. Even new friend Karen of Bobbins and Bombshells joined the party along with her beau (no photos of them sadly).

As you can see Perry and I went as a dead organ grinder and his rabid evil monkey. It was extremely fun to do a "couples" costume. Especially ones like these! He was such a sport!

I wish I had gotten any photos on my camera... I mean I brought it, but it never came out of my pocket. So now I am relying on the photos posted by others who were there. It would have been nice to get photos of Jenny's decorations as 75% of the Halloween decor was true vintage! She had some amazing decorations for sure!

It was so nice to be surrounded by friends. One's life can be quite lonely without them... especially on Halloween! I'd rather be surrounded by all these people that I love, than walking aimlessly around town looking for somewhere that I can be "seen".

Anyhow, I would LOVE to see your Halloween costumes!!! Please post a photo or two here in the comments!!

Happy Samhain!!
